Many organizations are now witnessing a new trend in sexual harassment. They are now seeing and dealing with what is known as same sex sexual harassment. This is not surprising considering that many people are now coming out of the closet about their sexuality and it was going to be a fact sooner or later.
Many employers are now dealing with same sex sexual harassment cases. At the same time employers cannot do anything against hiring a homosexual as it would be seen as discriminatory. Therefore, they are bound to hire homosexual workers and if they accuse a colleague of same sex sexual harassment, the employer is bound to resolve the case like any other sexual harassment case.
Many times it has been seen that same sex sexual harassment is being perpetrated against employees in entry-level jobs at organizations like McDonald's. These victims are being sexually harassed in their first jobs and they live with tainted view on employment, thinking that everywhere they would be sexually harassed. It is more common than most people think it is.
While some in government employment agencies feel that people should be educated about sexual harassment and be taught to turn in people resorting to sexual harassment, others think that homosexual employees should be taught how to work among heterosexuals without expecting any favors, and employers must have the right to fire anyone resorting to sexual harassment at the work place -- homosexual or heterosexual. This way an organization would not be sued for firing some based on their sexual orientation.
However, same sex sexual harassment or sexual harassment in general is a touchy topic and has to be dealt with accordingly. There cannot be shades of black and white. We have to take the gray into consideration. At the moment, there is still a lot of work to be done on same sex sexual harassment and as society opens up more to homosexuality, this problem will have to be addressed. We cannot push it under the carpet and pretend it does not exist because same sex sexual harassment is a reality and it is here to stay.
